Student Travel Award for Fall 2010 Meeting

Purpose
To encourage students and prospective librarians to explore careers in art and architecture librarianship through contact with art library colleagues at the ARLIS/WNY Fall Meeting, scheduled for November 5, 2010, Utica, NY.

Value:
$100 to defray travel/lodging and meal expenses or (for local applicants) $20 for Friday lunch.

Application: To apply for the travel award, please submit by email:

1. A letter of application (no more than two sides in length) stating where you learned of the award, your specific interest in art librarianship and expectation of the conference in Utica, your professional goals, and why you think you are a worthy candidate for the award.

2. A resume listing education background, employment history, and professional activities and/or interests. Please include your telephone and email address, as well as the names of two references including title,, email, addresses, and telephone numbers.

The deadline for submission is October 25, 2010. Candidates will be notified by October 29 of the travel award decisions. Two awards will be presented.

10:00-10:45 am: Tour of Look for Beauty: Philip Johnson and Art Museum Design” and Ann Reichlin installation “Counterpoint”

11:00 AM-12:30 pm: ARLIS/WNY Chapter Meeting

12:30-1:30 pm: Lunch in the Student Dining Hall

1:45-2:45 pm: Tour of Sculpture Space (12 Gates Street, Utica), artists’ visits, presentation on the Griffiss International Sculpture Park, and tour of Reichlin’s “Translucent Home” (light refreshments included)

2:45 pm – : Free time to revisit the Museum of Art, drive to the Sculpture Park, etc.

Annual Professional Development Award

ARLIS/WNY has presented a professional development award of four hundred dollars to a chapter member since 1994. This award is intended to help members, particularly new professionals, become involved in ARLIS/NA by attending the Annual ARLIS/NA Conference.

Applicants for the award must be dues-paying members of ARLIS/WNY and ARLIS/NA. All ARLIS/WNY members are eligible for the award. The chapter’s officers, members who have never attended the national conference, and those who will be participating in the conference as speakers, session/program moderators, moderators of a section, division or roundtable, or serving on committees are especially encouraged to apply for the award.

Applicants for the award should include a current resume and a letter describing the applicant’s participation in the conference (if applicable), the benefits anticipated from conference attendance, and all travel funding expected from the applicant’s institution or other sources.
